Sainsbury's Slough Photography
07th March 2011
Architectural Photographer David Millington was commissioned by Architects Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson to photograph the new Sainsbury's on Uxbridge Road in Slough.
David is based in the Northwest and it was extremely important for him to wait for a weather window that promised blue sky and full sun. All previous commissions that David has photographed for his clients HCD have been photographed under the best possible weather conditions. Monday the 7th of March was chosen as the day for the shoot and the supermarket had already been briefed that a shoot was imminent.
The next job on was to book the return flights from Manchester to London Heathrow. Now you might be thinking why would David choose to fly, it sounds expensive! David's travel arrangements are always based on cost and convenience. Driving is often cost prohibitive and the distances traveled often mean overnight accommodation costs. Flights were booked on the Saturday for the first morning flight at 07:00 and the last returning flight at 21:00. This meant a 05:00 start and a 23:45 finish, a very long day!
The flight down to Heathrow was on time but David encountered a totally unexpected problem at the airport, the taxi's all refused to take him to Slough! The work around here was to catch a bus which stopped just outside the Sainsbury's Store. On arrival David signed in and began shooting straight away as the light was already moving off the East facing elevations. Once these shots were in the bag David recced the site to decide on viewpoints for the remaining elevations and decided at what time he would need to be shooting.
After shooting a few more external photographs David went indoors to photograph the various internal areas of the food store which were part of HCD's brief. After lunch the sun had moved around sufficiently to enable David to capture the South facing elevations.
HCD's brief also included dusk photography so as soon as the sun had set David was able to capture these stunning architectural photographs of
