Sainsbury's Scunthorpe Photographed by David Millington Photography Ltd
09th May 2011
David was commissioned to photograph another Sainsbury's Supermarket, this time in Sunny Scunny, Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire.
The weather had become quite changeable so deciding on a day to shoot was tricky to say the least. The brief from the architects HCD was to photograph the store internally and externally by day and night. This time of year this meant that an early morning start was necessary in order to photograph the East facing elevations and a very late finish of 21:30 to photograph the building at dusk.
David decided that photographing the internals first thing would be beneficial especially in the Café whilst the store was relatively quite. Once David had photographed most of the internals he decided he'd better have some breakfast. Unfortunately he discovered that once outside a team of contractors had arrived in the car park to begin replacing all 35 gully covers and they had positioned barriers to prevent cars parking over the gullys, what a nightmare! However David managed to persuade the contractors to hide/remove some of the barriers so they didn't appear in any of the external photographs.
The weather mid-day changed from glorious wall to wall sunshine with beautiful clear blue skies to cloudy with occasional showers plus a thunder/lightning storm! This wasn't a problem because David completed the internal photography and then waited for the dusk shoot.
