2010 Urbanism Winner is Sheaf Square, Sheffield Midland Railway Station

23rd November 2009
Architectural photographer David Millington was commissioned in 2008 to photograph the Gold Route for CABE. Sheaf Square has transformed an area of land in front of the Sheffield Midland Railway Station that was shabby and unwelcoming to passengers arriving in Sheffield by rail.

The public space is now very welcoming forming a real gateway to the City of Sheffield. The municipal square is now a beautiful contemporary area of public realm, featuring a splendid cascading fountain, seating platforms which are underlit with blue neon lighting and a fantastic artwork called the Cutting Edge which has been created using curved stainless steel linking back to the Cities industrial heritage.
