Finalists for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Awards 2009

The Better Public Building initiative has been celebrated each year since 2001 by the Prime Minister’s (PM's) Better Public Building Award which rewards excellence in both design and procurement from across the public sector.

The shortlist for the 2009 Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award was announced on 11 June 2009. Twenty-four projects from around the country were chosen by the judges from 125 entries. The Liverpool Canal link which joins the Leeds-Liverpool canal to Liverpool's South Docks is one of the finalists!



Architectural photographer David Millington has been commissioned by Ove Arup the principle engineers's for the Liverpool Canal Link. The Three Graces form a historic heritage backdrop to the two canal basins emerging out of the beautifully crafted granite, accurately cut by stone mason specialists with the aide of 3D software, reducing waste and enhancing production time.

The City of Liverpool now has a new visitor attraction which is part of the Three Graces world heritage site.
