Castleford Footbridge Prime Minister's Award Finalist 2008 Photographed by David Millington

21st September 2008
David Millington Photography Ltd was commissioned to photograph the Castleford Footbridge which was a Better Public Building Prime Minister's Award Finalist and a British Construction Industry Civil Engineering Award - Commendation winner in 2008.

The bridge which has been nominated for other honours and credited with attracting more tourists to the town, is in the running to win the Waterways Renaissance Awards 2009.Run by The Waterways Trust and the British Urban Regeneration Association, the honours recognise best practice in sustainable waterway regeneration and development.

The S-shaped bridge across the River Aire is four metres wide and spans more than 130 metres. It’s made the river central to the town. The town is now beginning to face the river, rather than turning its back on it, making the river a destination.

David's photographs document a day in the life of the Castleford Bridge capturing both residents and tourists enjoying this most ambitious element of The Castleford Project aspiring to unlock urban renewal in the former coal-mining town.
